The United States asked Russia not to publish Washington’s response to the security guarantee proposals. This was reported by The Washington Post newspaper, citing its sources among high-ranking American diplomats.
“American officials asked their Russian colleagues to keep the document secret, but a senior State Department official admitted that the Kremlin could release it,” the source said.
The US State Department previously said that the written response of the United States will contain American proposals on security issues and “demonstrate Washington’s interest in continuing dialogue with Moscow.”
Recall that in December 2021, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs published draft agreements on security guarantees, which were sent to Washington. They propose to refuse the admission of Ukraine to the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as to impose restrictions on the deployment of serious offensive weapons.
