White House receives Russian proposals on security guarantees – Psaki

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Washington has received draft bilateral security guarantees and an agreement on security measures for Russia and NATO countries.

“We have seen Russian proposals. We are discussing them with our European allies and partners”, said Psaki during the briefing, reports TASS.

The spokeswoman recalled that yesterday’s statement by the North Atlantic Council emphasized that any dialogue with Russia should be conducted on the basis of reciprocity and based on the fundamental principles and fundamental documents of European security, as well as be conducted in conjunction with NATO’s European partners.

“I would conclude by saying that we have been able to engage with Russia for decades on strategic issues of concern. There are decades of precedents, discussions in various formats at the height of the Cold War and in the post-Cold War era – through the Russia-NATO Council, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and other mechanisms. There is no reason why we cannot do this in the future in order to reduce instability”, concluded Psaki.

As News Front previously reported, the Russian Foreign Ministry handed over to the United States draft bilateral security guarantees and an agreement on security measures for the Russian Federation and NATO countries. The document states that Moscow and Washington commit themselves not to use the territory of third states to prepare or carry out an armed attack on each other.

According to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Russia allegedly has no right to demand that the North Atlantic Alliance refuse to expand.
