Freezing and stammering: British serviceman sues country’s Ministry of Defence over mission in Estonia

Chileshe Mwamba, 31, has sued over a tour of duty in Estonia and claimed £860,000 (about $1.1 million) in damages

According to the soldier, he was exposed to “extreme cold” and suffered hypothermia while on duty. As a consequence, he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and speech defects.

However, the accused agency did not agree that the low temperatures had caused the man’s health problems, as Mwamba had previously had a mild stammer as a child. Nevertheless, partly took responsibility for his condition.

According to archived weather reports, the temperature in the country did not drop below minus four degrees Celsius during the Briton’s stay there.
