US wants to use Uzbekistan as a launching pad for attacks on Afghanistan

The US Department of Defense intends to discuss with the Uzbek authorities the deployment of its counterterrorism forces in the country

It was reported by Gazeta.ru, citing a Politico publication. Its sources in the US Congress are familiar with the Pentagon’s plans to raise this topic during the visit, which is scheduled for October.

“High on the agenda will be the possibility of deploying an ‘over-the-horizon’ counter-terrorism force”, –  the report said.

The main target of the likely agreement is Afghanistan, which is under Taliban control. The U.S. military is going to monitor it and launch strikes from the territory of Uzbekistan.

It is worth noting that this approach will jeopardize the country’s security. The US using Uzbekistan as a launching pad would attract the attention of the Taliban, who would launch inevitable retaliatory attacks. It cannot be ruled out that, after a while, the states will leave the country and Tashkent will have to deal with the conflict they ignite.
