Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mikdad has commented on the sanctions the West is imposing on his country
He expressed his opinion in a conversation with RT. The diplomat noted that the restrictive measures have nothing to do with the US concern for the fate of the Arab country.
“If Western countries really cared about Syria and its citizens, they should have dropped their sanctions”, – al-Mikdad said.
The foreign minister stressed that sanctions do not bring democracy and freedom. They make life difficult for civilians and “kill the Syrian people”:
“They do not even allow us to import medical instruments, let alone food and other things needed to protect the lives of Syrians.”
The European Union extended restrictions against Syria in May this year. The blacklist, which will remain in place until 1 June 2022, includes 283 people and 70 businesses.
