Czech delegation goes to Russia for Sputnik V vaccine

The Czech government intends to reach preliminary agreements before the vaccine is approved by the European regulator

On Monday, April 19, the Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Jan Gamachek, who is the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, is going on a working visit to Moscow. The official’s goal is to reach agreements on the supply of a vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus.

Vaccination in the European Union has been undermined by a drug from the Anglo-Swedish company AstraZeneca. At first, the manufacturer said it did not have enough capacity to produce the contracted volumes. Then it was discovered that the vaccine provoked blood clots and its use was restricted.

In the face of shortages, the Czech Republic aims to be among the first EU countries to receive the Russian drug, Gamachek said earlier.

“We should be ready to immediately purchase Sputnik V for vaccination of the country’s residents as soon as the drug is certified by the European Medicines Agency”, –  the official stated.
