PM Rutte’s party wins Dutch elections again

According to exit polls, the right-wing party of Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who has been in charge of the government since 2010, has won parliamentary elections in the Netherlands

According to provisional figures, the Prime Minister’s party was supported by 23% of voters. Consequently, Rutte’s political force will receive about 35 seats in the lower house. A total of 17 political forces are expected to make it into parliament.

Due to restrictions because of the coronavirus pandemic, the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands lasted for three days. On the first two days, citizens at risk voted, while 17 March was the last day of the popular vote.

It should be recalled that in January 2021 Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and all members of the government resigned over the child benefits scandal. Last December, it was reported that many families in the country had been wrongly accused of abusing the benefit system.
