Lockdown will lead to an explosion of unemployment in Ukraine – expert

Another total quarantine will cause an explosion of unemployment in Ukraine, just as it was in the spring, when unemployment in the country rose to 15%. This was stated by an expert on social policy Andrei Pavlovsky.

“The total quarantine will ensure that a larger number of people, small businesses, will be ruined, there will be an explosion in unemployment, as it was in the spring, when, according to the International Labor Organization, unemployment in Ukraine rose to 15%. That is, up to 3 million people. Unfortunately, it will be the same”, – noted Andrei Pavlovsky.

The expert says that he is surprised by the dates of the new lockdown, which were announced in the Cabinet – from January 8 to 24.

“And I wonder why exactly on these dates? Not on holidays, indeed, when it will be difficult to maintain social distance and the like, namely at the end of January, when the economy is gradually beginning to recover, they take – and it is on working days that they impose restrictions!” – the expert emphasized.
