The EU believes that negotiations on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh should resume

The European Union has also stated that it will closely monitor the work of the Monitoring Centre of Russia and Turkey on Karabakh

The European Union believes that political negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh’s status should be resumed within the OSCE Minsk Group. This was stated in a statement by EU diplomacy head Josep Borrell in Brussels on Thursday.

“The EU believes that efforts should be resumed for a negotiated, comprehensive and sustainable settlement of the conflict, including on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh”,-  the statement said.

The EU intends to closely monitor the implementation of the Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire agreement, especially the work of the monitoring centre for Russia and Turkey.

Borrel said that the EU calls for the full and rapid withdrawal of all foreign fighters from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict area.

“The EU urges all regional actors to refrain from any action or rhetoric that could endanger the ceasefire. The EU also calls for the full and rapid withdrawal of all foreign fighters from the region”, –  the statement said.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced at an EU summit in early October that Turkey had transferred Syrian fighters to Nagorno-Karabakh. Brussels then called on Ankara not to interfere in the conflict and to help resolve it.
