The U.S. may try and impose sanctions against Hong Kong because of the national security law, it will be an opportunity for China to demonstrate its determination to defend itself and strike back, Zhao Xiaoming of the Office of Hong Kong and Macao of the Chinese State Council said on Wednesday.
“If they feel they don’t have enough chaos in their country, if they don’t feel they will lose more from sanctions than the ones they are targeting, if they want to do so with an opportunity to shift attention away from their crisis, they can try. This is an opportunity for us to show our determination and ability to defend ourselves and strike back”, – Zhang Xiaoming said at the briefing.
