Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday officially supported former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden as a presidential candidate from the Democratic Party.
“At this time of crisis, it is more important than ever for the next president to restore the faith of Americans in a good, effective government, and I saw how Joe Biden helped our country to recover. Today I am proud to support Joe Biden as a candidate for president of the United States”, – Warren wrote on Twitter, referring to the recovery of the United States after the 2008-09 crisis.
Back in March, Biden was a leader in the primary party elections (primaries) among the Democrats by a significant margin. After that, he was supported by several participants in the race. Senator Bernie Sanders, the main rival in the primaries, announced his support on Monday and former President Barack Obama, whose vice president Biden worked for, on Tuesday. The politician has thus gained the support of all major primaries rivals, allowing him to focus on the general elections. Now Biden must be formally approved by a single candidate at the Democratic Party Congress in August.
The general election, in which he will oppose incumbent President Donald Trump, will take place on November 3.
