China calls on Washington to stop interfering in the affairs of Venezuela amid accusations by the US Justice Department against President of the Bolivarian Republic Nicholas Maduro, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a briefing on Monday.
Earlier, the US Department of Justice announced accusations against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and the country’s leadership, claiming they were involved in drug trafficking, the US authorities announced a reward in $ 15 million for Maduro, and $10 million for the rest of the country’s leadership indicated in the charge.
“Venezuela is an independent and sovereign state, China has consistently opposed violation of the sovereignty of Venezuela and any external interference in the internal affairs of the country, we also oppose illegal unilateral sanctions”, – the diplomat said.
China calls on the United States to comply with the UN Charter and the basic rules governing international relations, and stop interfering in the internal affairs of Venezuela.
Hua Chunying also added that Beijing calls on all parties to prioritize the well-being of the Venezuelan people, to meet each other, to contribute to maintaining stability in the country and the region.
