Saudi Arabia to call emergency G20 summit online

Saudi authorities will convene an extraordinary online summit of the G20 next week.

“The G20 chair country Saudi Arabia is contacting the G20 countries to convene an emergency virtual summit of G20 leaders next week to move forward with a coordinated response to the COVID-19 pandemic”, –  the summit website said.

It is reported that Saudi Arabia will work with international organizations to reduce the impact of the pandemic.

Earlier, the Spanish government announced after a telephone conversation between Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that Saudi Arabia, this year’s G20 chair country, intends to hold a summit on the coronavirus situation online in the coming days.
On 11 March, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of the new coronavirus COVID-19 a pandemic. In the world more than 173 thousand people are already infected in more than 150 countries, most of them have recovered, more than 7 thousand died.
