American energy interests in Belarus have remained unfulfilled. According to Dmitry Krutoy, First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, on Wednesday, February 12, the country’s authorities did not conclude any agreements with the United States regarding the supply of American oil.
“There are no contracts with the Americans,” the official assured, answering a question from journalists.
As News Front previously reported, Minsk tried to get Moscow to lower the price of Russian oil. However, even negotiations between Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin did not bring the desired result. According to Dmitry Kozak, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration, Moscow cannot sell oil to Belarus at a cheaper price than the market. For the Russian Federation, this would mean the introduction of state regulation of the oil industry.
At the same time, the head of the US State Department Michael Pompeo, who arrived in Minsk, has already stated that the United States is able to “100 percent” provide Belarus with oil. The US Secretary of State also promised “competitive prices” for energy, but it is obvious that oil delivered thousands of kilometers across the Atlantic cannot be cheaper than Russian.
