The ex-president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, appealed to international organizations, including the UN, European countries and the Catholic Church, with a request to facilitate dialogue to resolve the current situation in the country.
“I ask international organizations such as the UN, European friendly countries and structures such as the Catholic Church, represented by Pope Francis, to join us in a dialogue to reconcile our beloved Bolivia. Violence encroaches on public life and peace”, – wrote Morales on Twitter.
Earlier on Twitter, Morales called for a national dialogue in which “we would all be represented” – social movements, civic committees and political parties.
“If I can by my presence contribute to a peaceful solution that will stop the violence and take care of life (of people), I will do it for my beloved Bolivia”, – he wrote.
In the October 20 election, Morales won the first round, but his main rival, Carlos Mesa, did not recognize the vote. On Sunday, the armed forces of Bolivia called on Morales to resign to ensure stability in the country, after which he announced his resignation. The entire top leadership of the country also resigned, the opposition was adopted by the vice-speaker of the Senate. Morales left the country, he is in Mexico.
Opposition senator Janine Agnes said Tuesday that she was temporarily assuming the powers of the President of Bolivia after the resignation of the country’s leadership. The Constitutional Court confirmed the legality of the transfer of power to it.
