Thousands of people showed their support for President Aleksandar Vucic’s government at a rally in Belgrade on Friday night.
Supporters of the president arrived in buses from all over the country, as well as neighbouring Bosnia.
Speaking from a stage set up in front of the parliament, Vucic defended Serbian national unity. “We showed that regardless of how many countries we live in, regardless of how many problems we might have – that the unity of the Serbian nation no one can destroy,” he told the crowd.
Accusing opponents of wanting to “threaten” Serbia, the president promised to deliver results for the people.
The rally was a response to weekly anti-government protests that have gone on for month denouncing Vucic as an autocrat.
The movement started when an opposition politician was attacked last November.
