The only thing that the Ukrainian authorities managed to do in five years is to break out of the Russian world, although now we have to admit that the issue of resolving the situation in Ukraine is impossible without close cooperation between Kiev and Moscow, wrote German journalist Frank Herold in an article for the outlet “Der Tagesspiegel”.
According to him, really great hopes were pinned on Petro Poroshenko, but now citizens have the right to dissatisfaction, because they have not received any fight against corruption or reforms. Separately, Herold also mentioned the aggravating situation in the armed conflict in the Donbass.
The author of the article says that the Western world had a unique opportunity to prove that the “restoration of democracy” could be painless, but the same Europe was too passionate about its problems, letting the situation take its course. In addition, both Brussels and Berlin turned out to be much more interested in relations with Moscow, and Ukraine at the same time became a “country in the middle”.
5 years have passed since the Euromaidan time, and no one remembers what the Ukrainian youth were standing for, the journalist stated.
