In the news of the Central Television of Croatia, in a report on the support of the handball team, fascist symbols were closely showed.
At a time when the reporter spoke about the numerous fans who arrived to support athletes in Germany, in the frame was the flag of Croatia with the letter “U” – a symbol of the so-called “Ustashi” – the Nazi formation during the Second World War.
In April 1941, the Ustashi proclaimed the puppet state formation “Independent State of Croatia”, controlled by the Nazis. On their account there are hundreds of victims among the Serbian, Jewish and Gypsy population, only in the concentration camp “Jasenovac”, according to various sources, up to 700 thousand people were killed.
Ustash symbolism appears regularly on street actions in Croatia, and especially among fans, including during trips to other countries.
