Migrant crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina

No one knows the exact number of migrants who are currently in Bosnia & Herzegovina. According to official information, at least 9000 are registered. The number of unregistered is unknown.

About 90 percent of registered persons are men aged 18 to 35 years. The largest number of registered migrants is the citizens of Pakistan – 3,200 people, and these are illegal migrants who are not refugees, the director of the Foreigners Service, Slobodan Uyich told the Srna news agency.

Two months and a half ago, the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, warned that B&H would face a migratory crisis, but its warnings were ignored, Radio Television of the Republika Srpska reported.

The Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektich first said that there is no crisis and that he will not create camps for migrants in B&H. But just a few days ago he said that he did not exclude the possibility of installing a wire fence on the border.

The migrant crisis was to be resolved a few months ago. However, assurances from the B&H authorities that everything is under control, that there is no spread of the crisis, and that politicians from the Republika Srpska use the “alleged crisis” for self-promotion, have returned to the government of B&H as a boomerang.
