Spain: Moroccan citizen detained for ‘spreading terrorist material’ in Balmaseda

A 22-year-old Moroccan citizen was arrested on charges of ‘spreading terrorist material’ in the town of Balmaseda, northern Spain, Wednesday.

The police arrested the suspect’s during a dawn raid on his home in the Basque Country, before searching the premise.

The detainee faces charges of ‘spreading terrorist ideology’ through Facebook, and maintain contact with members of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIL/ISIS).

The posts were made over the period 2013 to the present day, and included an annual event celebrating the 9/11 attacks on the United States, as well as ‘constant allusions to Jihad and the armed conflict to defend Islam.’
