Germany: 3.8 tonnes of cocaine seized in Hamburg

German customs seized a record 3.8 tons of cocaine in the port of Hamburg. The cost of drugs amounted to 800 million euros (920 million US dollars).

The first two shipments were shipped from Paraguay, and were hidden in several coal containers. The third delivery was from Uruguay in containers for animal feed.

“In all three parties, the so-called” scam method “was used. According to this scam, legal cargo is used for smuggling without the knowledge of the consignor or the consignee, “the German police said.

“Corrupt officials and port officials contribute to this prohibited form of trade, and there are fears that organized criminal groups involved in cocaine trafficking can make systematic efforts to” finance “workers in all major ports in order to facilitate the movement of cargo along the route,” reads in the message.
