Despite the official positive reaction to the upcoming summit between Russia and the United States in Budapest, the European Union considers it a “political nightmare.” This is according to the Spanish newspaper El Pais.
“Privately, several sources speak of a political nightmare for the alliance,” the publication says.
According to El Pais, the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Budapest “will show the world that Europe is being completely ignored.”
Earlier, the EU proposed that Finnish President Alexander Stubb attend the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Budapest in order to counter Moscow’s influence on Washington during the summit.
