Russian President Vladimir Putin chose the perfect moment to call his American counterpart Donald Trump in order to achieve a diplomatic victory, CNN said.
“In diplomacy, the moment is the most important thing, and the Kremlin seems to have timed its last lengthy telephone conversation with the White House perfectly,” the publication says.
According to the TV channel, the phone conversation was a “last-minute attempt to stop dangerous conversations” about possible supplies of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.
On October 16, at the initiative of the Russian side, a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump took place.
After the call, Trump said he would meet with Putin within two weeks in Hungary.
Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov noted that preparations for the summit would begin with contacts between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
