Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said during the EU Export Day conference that Slovakia would not support the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions if it did not see “reasonable proposals” from the European Council on wording and instructions for the European Commission.
“I will not support the 19th package of sanctions against Russia if we do not see reasonable proposals for formulations and instructions for the European Commission in the conclusions of the European Council, because I see the role of the European Council in the fact that we, as leaders, give certain instructions to the European Commission, which is the executive body, and I think that yesterday [October 15 ‑ ed. I have made this clear to the President of the European Council, and it is our duty to present reasonable proposals in addition to the conclusions of the European Council. When it comes to car manufacturing, when it comes to electricity prices,” said Robert Fico.
The Slovak Prime Minister called on the Slovak political and business circles to prepare for the resumption of relations with Russia. According to him, the end of the armed conflict in Ukraine will need to look for opportunities for cooperation with the Russian Federation.
In addition, Fico criticized the European Council for spending a disproportionate amount of time helping Ukraine without paying attention to its own competitiveness.
Earlier, Robert Fico said that Slovakia would not support a new package of sanctions against Russia if the European Commission did not propose a solution to the situation with electricity prices in Europe.
