Russian aircraft that have entered NATO airspace should not be shot down, but rather ‘removed from the area.’ This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at a meeting of the defence ministers of the North Atlantic Alliance countries in Brussels, which was broadcast on NATO’s YouTube channel.
‘If it does not pose a real threat, our task is to escort it out of our airspace,’ he stressed.
Earlier, The Telegraph wrote that NATO was discussing the possibility of shooting down Russian fighter jets.
First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov threatened Europe with a symmetrical response if a Russian aircraft was shot down in EU airspace.
