The US president stated that Madrid should increase its defence spending to 5% of GDP, as previously agreed by other alliance countries.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called this goal “incompatible with the model of a social state.”
During a meeting in the Oval Office with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Trump said that European leaders should convince Spain to increase its contribution to the alliance.
