The American authorities believe that the use of Russian airspace reduces the flight time of Chinese airlines and gives them a competitive advantage over American carriers.
The restriction will not apply to cargo flights, but will affect flights operated by Air China, China Eastern, Xiamen Airlines and China Southern, tentatively starting in November this year.
It is noted that the proposal is linked to the escalation of trade tensions between Washington and Beijing.
