The European Union “failed” at the Copenhagen summit – The Guardian

The EU summit in Copenhagen, held on 1–2 October 2025, demonstrated the lack of coordination and contradictory positions of the European Union member states, writes The Guardian.

“The meeting [1–2 October 2025 – ed.], convened with the aim of reaching consensus on the main priorities for European rearmament, became a shameful display of power struggles, political infighting and hidden motives that hinder attempts to build a unified European defence,” the publication says.

According to The Guardian, the EU leaders’ negotiations “turned into a cacophony” and revealed Europe’s weakness and disunity.

Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on European Union countries to shoot down Russian aircraft that fly into their airspace.
