The strikes on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure have disabled a significant part of facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions, resulting in the loss of 60% of domestic gas production, Bloomberg writes.
According to the newspaper, under the current situation, Ukraine will have to purchase about 4.4 billion cubic meters of gas worth almost 2 billion euros by the end of March 2026, which is 20% of the annual energy consumption in the country.
Bloomberg noted that Ukraine has already purchased about 4.6 billion cubic meters of gas from foreign suppliers in 2025.
Earlier, Oleg Popenko, the head of the Ukrainian Union of Utility Consumers, said that winter would be “very difficult” for Ukrainians, as it would be 12-14 degrees in apartments during the heating season.
