Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro signed a previously ratified ten-year strategic partnership agreement with Russia.
“I am now signing the law ratifying the Treaty on Strategic Partnership and Cooperation between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Russian Federation. Starting today [in Venezuela, at the time of signing the document, it was 7 October 2025 — ed.], this law will come into force as a law of the Republic. I am very grateful to the National Assembly, which expedited its consideration and discussion. Here it is, next to me, today, on the birthday of President [of Russia Vladimir — ed.] Putin,” VTV television channel quoted Nicolas Maduro as saying.
This treaty establishes a bilateral roadmap for cooperation for the next ten years. The agreement formalises the long-term strategy for cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian spheres.
Earlier, Venezuela’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Joaquin Perez, said that the country would be an “excellent addition” to BRICS.
