The overwhelming majority of European Union member states supported a ban on imports of Russian gas and oil from January 2028.
This information was reported by Reuters, citing sources. It is noted that of all EU countries, only Hungary and Slovakia have expressed concern about such a ban.
“Negotiations are currently underway on technical changes ahead of the vote on 20 October,” the article says.
It is also noted that on Wednesday, 8 October, EU ambassadors agreed to begin implementing a plan to stop imports of Russian energy resources.
According to the agency’s sources, this allowed the first obstacle to the adoption of the relevant law to be overcome.
Earlier, the EUObserver portal reported that Hungary and Slovakia may delay the adoption of a new package of EU sanctions against Russia.
