US President Donald Trump has suspended attempts to reach a diplomatic agreement with Venezuela, which could pave the way for a possible military escalation, writes The New York Times.
“During a meeting with senior military leaders on Thursday, Mr. [Donald – ed.] Trump called Mr. [US Special Envoy Richard – ed.] Grenell Greenell and instructed him that all diplomatic contacts, including his negotiations with Mr [Venezuelan President Nicolás – ed.] Maduro, should be discontinued,” the publication said.
According to The New York Times, the US president’s administration has developed a number of military plans.
Earlier, Venezuela’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Alexander Gabriel Yáñez Delez, said that Venezuela intends to use all diplomatic channels to avoid military confrontation in the Caribbean.
