WSJ: Beijing and Tehran have found a clever way to circumvent US sanctions
China and Iran circumvent US sanctions on the supply of Iranian oil by using a barter system: Tehran supplies Beijing with energy resources, and Chinese companies are building infrastructure in the Islamic Republic. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The journalists noted that the system under which the two countries cooperate is similar to barter.
“Iranian oil is being shipped to China, Tehran’s largest customer, and in return, state—backed Chinese companies are building infrastructure in Iran,” the article says.
At the end of July, the head of the US Treasury, Scott Bessent, became concerned that China was buying Iranian oil under sanctions.
