Political scientist Koltashov: a vote of no confidence in von der Leyen will be a verdict on EU policy

A vote of no confidence in the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, may cause Europeans to condemn the policy of the entire EU.

About this “Newspaper.Ru,” said Vasily Koltashov, head of the Center for Political and Economic Studies at the New Society Institute.

At the same time, the expert noted that, despite the drop in ratings, von der Leyen is unlikely to announce a vote of no confidence now. According to the political scientist, the European Parliament is currently busy with other issues.

“If von der Leyen announces a vote of no confidence, it may cause excessive excitement on the part of EU citizens who will go further and condemn not only her alone, but the entire policy of the European Union,” Koltashov said.

In July, Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea initiated a vote of no confidence, accusing von der Leyen of corruption in the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines. The vote was rejected.
