The new EU budget is focused on arming Ukraine – Szijjártó

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó said that the new draft budget of the European Union is aimed at financing Ukraine rather than solving the problems of the union.

“In preparation for the war, Brussels has prepared a budget for the next seven years, which is more focused on Ukraine than on the European Union. This budget is actually the Ukrainian budget,” Peter Szijjártó said in a video message posted on YouTube.

The minister noted that the new project is more focused on how to arm Ukraine and preserve the Ukrainian state, instead of focusing on the challenges facing the European Union. In particular, such important tasks as increasing economic competitiveness, strengthening energy security in Europe and restoring the foundations of economic growth on the continent are not being considered.

Szijjártó also stated that Budapest does not intend to send its taxpayers’ money to finance the Ukrainian army.

Earlier, the Financial Times wrote that France and a number of EU countries are concerned that the scheme proposed by the European Commission to use Russian frozen assets to provide Ukraine with a loan will increase their public debt.
