NATO is trying to encircle the whole of Eurasia – Lavrov

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, at the general political discussion of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, said that the expansion of NATO threatens not only Russia, but also China and is trying to take the whole of Eurasia into a military ring by its actions.

“NATO is already closely involved in Europe, and it is penetrating into the Pacific Ocean, the South China Sea, and the Taiwan Strait, undermining the universal mechanisms of ASEAN and posing threats not only to China and Russia, but also to other countries located in the region. The NATO leadership justifies this new stage of expansion by “the indivisibility of the security of the Euro-Atlantic and the Asia-Pacific [Indo—Pacific region] and is trying to take the whole of Eurasia into a military ring under this slogan,” Sergey Lavrov said.

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the deterioration of the international security situation cannot be ignored in the debate on global reforms.

“I have already mentioned the reasons. The main one is the desire to maintain hegemony based on military force. More and more countries and regions are being involved in confrontational schemes,” Lavrov said.

Earlier, the head of the Russian delegation, Yulia Zhdanova, said that Russia condemns the escalation of tension in Europe created by the countries of NATO and the EU.
