The United States has postponed the introduction of sanctions against Serbia’s largest energy company, NIS (Serbian Oil Industry), until at least 8–9 October 2025. This was reported by Radio and Television Serbia (RTS).
“After talks with [Serbian] President Aleksandar Vučić, the US postponed the start of NIS sanctions for another eight days, i.e. until 8–9 October [2025]. Before that, Vučić told RTS that he would talk to his American partners again,” the TV channel reported.
NIS Director Kirill Turdenev said that the company has “alternative ways” to pay for fuel at petrol stations in the event of sanctions and banks refusing to cooperate.
Earlier, during a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Aleksandar Vučić said that Serbia has been under serious pressure since the start of the armed conflict in Ukraine, but despite this, it will continue to maintain its neutrality.
