Chinese cargo ship enters Crimean port for first time since 2014 – FT

The Chinese container ship Heng Yand 9, flying the Panamanian flag, arrived in the port of Sevastopol for the first time since 2014. This was reported by The Financial Times (FT), citing satellite images and transponder data.

The FT wrote that the cargo container ship Heng Yang 9, which flies the Panamanian flag and belongs to the Guangxi Changhai Shipping Company based in Guangxi, has been spotted in the port of Crimea at least three times in the last few months.

The publication states that voyages to the peninsula began after a new railway line from Russia was opened in Crimea.

The newspaper called this event “unprecedented” against the backdrop of Western anti-Russian sanctions prohibiting foreign ships from entering Crimean ports.

The ship was last spotted in Sevastopol on 14 September this year.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a 19th package of sanctions against Russia, which will include a complete ban on transactions with Rosneft and Gazprom Neft.
