German Air Force fighters were scrambled after a Russian Il-20M flew over the Baltic Sea

Two Eurofighter fighter jets were scrambled after a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft was spotted in international airspace over the Baltic Sea, flying “without a flight plan or radio contact,” according to Die Zeit, citing the German Air Force.

“Initially, the unidentified aircraft was flying in international airspace without a flight plan or radio contact,” the article states.

The fighter jets, which were launched from the Lage airbase in northern Germany, identified the aircraft as a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft.

In May, Poland announced that it had escorted a Russian Su-24 over the Baltic Sea.
