Trump deliberately set impossible conditions to avoid sanctions against Russia, – WSJ

European diplomats believe that US President Donald Trump deliberately set impossible conditions for anti-Russian sanctions in order to avoid them, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper noted that European governments had been pressuring Donald Trump to tighten anti-Russian sanctions. However, European countries refused to comply with the US president’s demand to stop purchasing Russian energy resources.

According to the WSJ, EU leaders are currently trying to find a solution to Trump’s demand and are actively using a tool that allows them to transfer profits from Russian assets to Ukraine.

Earlier, the Público newspaper wrote that Donald Trump is gradually losing interest in the Ukrainian conflict, focusing instead on economic benefits.
