The publication notes that the temporary precautionary measure, introduced during the recent Russian-Belarusian military exercises, has led to the suspension of rail freight traffic between China and the EU, which amounts to €25 billion per year.
What was initially announced as a temporary measure now appears to be indefinite: the Polish government cites “concerns for the safety of Polish citizens” and states that “traffic will resume as soon as the border is completely secure.”
The border closure has affected the trade route that carries 90% of rail freight between China and the EU.
