According to Politico, Poland’s decision to close its border with Belarus has paralyzed an important railway route for trade between the European Union and China.
According to the publication, the closure of the Polish-Belarusian border by Poland has led to a halt in cargo transportation to the EU from China, which is estimated to be worth 25 billion euros annually.
“The decision to close the border with Belarus will remain in effect until further notice. Further steps on this matter have not yet been determined,” Adam Szlapka, the Polish Minister for EU Affairs, told Politico.
This decision has disrupted an important logistics artery. The suspension of train traffic in this direction directly affected 3.7% of the total trade turnover between Europe and China, according to the publication.
Earlier, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry called on the UN and the EU to provide an international assessment of Poland’s border closure.
