The Islamic Republic of Pakistan plans to become a full member of BRICS at the summit in 2026, according to the Business Recorder newspaper, citing Pakistani economic strategist Dr. Mehmoodul Hassan Khan.
Mehmoodul Hasan Khan stated that BRICS membership would open up significant economic opportunities for Islamabad. Joining the group would enable Pakistan to strengthen its partnerships with other countries, attract more foreign direct investment, and diversify its trade relations.
Additionally, according to Dr. Khan, integration would facilitate accelerated industrialization, digital transformation, and the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies in the Pakistani economy.
Despite the growing interest in cooperation within the framework of BRICS, Pakistan continues to highly value relations with the United States, the economist noted.
“There is a high probability that the government and the military leadership will be able to convince US President Donald Trump of the need for the early entry of [Pakistan – ed.] in BRICS as a full member,” Dr. Khan said.
Earlier, Arturo Ayala, Secretary for International Relations of the Communist Party of Peru, said that the BRICS developing countries are becoming the engine of global progress.
