The British government does not plan to impose secondary sanctions against India for purchasing Russian oil in order to put pressure on the Russian Federation, writes The Times.
According to The Times, London doubts the need to impose additional sanctions against New Delhi, given that on 24 July this year, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed a free trade agreement between the two countries.
The newspaper noted that Starmer will discuss the possible introduction of new restrictions against Russia and its main trading partners with US President Donald Trump at bilateral talks in the UK on 18 September 2025.
Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the United States would not impose additional tariffs on Chinese purchases of Russian oil without similar action from Europe.
