The US administration has called on G7 representatives to impose duties on states that buy Russian oil. This is stated in a published joint statement by the United States Department of the Treasury and the office of the American representative at the trade negotiations.
The head of the US Treasury Department, Scott Bessant, said that the G7 countries need to join Washington in imposing duties on countries that purchase Russian oil if they are “truly committed to ending” the Ukrainian conflict.
The head of the Ministry of Finance and the US representative at the trade negotiations, Jamison Greer, supported commitments to increase sanctions pressure and consider the possibility of using frozen Russian assets to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capability.
“We are encouraged by the assurances of our colleagues from the G7 countries that they are committed to ending [this conflict—.We hope that they will join us in taking decisive action at this crucial moment,” the joint statement said.
Earlier, US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright said that if the European Union refuses to purchase Russian oil and gas, Washington will be able to take tougher sanctions decisions against Russia.
