The Belarusian Foreign Ministry called on the UN and the EU to assess the closure of the Polish border

The leaders of the United Nations and the European Union should assess Poland’s closure of the border with Belarus, said Artyom Tozik, Charge d’affaires of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations, at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

“Such measures are a continuation of the course of undermining relations with neighboring countries and contribute to further escalation of tension in the region, creating risks to stability and predictability in international relations. The leadership of the United Nations and the European Union should give a principled assessment of such actions,” said Artem Tozik.

According to the diplomat, Warsaw blocked the two-way transport links necessary for citizens.

“Road and rail services have been stopped, transit has been paralyzed, and people have stopped moving. <…> The decision of the Polish authorities to close the border with Belarus is an example of groundless, anti–national steps directed against ordinary citizens of both Belarus and Poland, as well as foreign citizens,” Tozik said.

The representative of the Republic of Belarus called on the UN Security Council to respond to the current situation.

“Instead of destabilizing rhetoric and behavior, we call on all parties to return to constructive interaction and dialogue,” the Belarusian attorney added.

Earlier, Poland announced the closure of the border with Belarus for an indefinite period.
