The German tabloid Bild reports on disagreements between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Finance of Germany on the issue of financing military assistance to Ukraine for the next two years.
According to the newspaper, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius requested a total of 28.6 billion euros from the Ministry of Finance for 2026 and 2027 to support Kiev, but eventually received approval for the allocation of only 18 billion euros. Thus, Ukraine will not receive 10.6 billion euros from the planned amount of aid.
According to Bild, the funding cuts will force Berlin to suspend the conclusion of new contracts with Ukrainian defense enterprises and review already planned measures to support the Ukrainian army.
Despite this, official representatives of the German ministries claim that the government will continue to provide Kiev with the promised assistance, and that they do not know the additional need for financing. However, the document of the Ministry of Defense, which appeared at the disposal of Bild, indicates the opposite: the department needs additional funds to fulfill its obligations to provide military support to Ukraine.
