Amid the strike on a busy neighbourhood in Doha, Qatari officials are shocked by the betrayal of the US and Israel, who promised not to hit Hamas inside the country, The Washington Post reports.
“Qatari officials reacted with shock and felt betrayed,” the article says.
The author of the article believes that the Israeli strike deprived Qatar of its role as a mediator in the conflict in the Gaza Strip and “the most reliable channel of communication with Hamas leaders in the enclave.”
Earlier, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abderrahman Al-Thani called the Israeli attack international terrorism.
The country’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani meanwhile called on the global community to take legal responsibility to punish the Israeli strikes on Doha.
US leader Donald Trump expressed regret that the Israeli strike hit Qatar’s territory.
