Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the UN General Assembly session in New York, the Hindustan Times (HT) newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, the decision of the Indian prime minister is connected with the aggravation of relations between New Delhi and Washington. The reason for the tension was the trade policy of the administration of US President Donald Trump, which increased customs duties on a wide range of Indian exports.
India’s speech to the Assembly is scheduled for September 27, 2025. Due to the impossibility of the presence of Prime Minister Modi, the Indian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, HT noted.
Earlier, Narendra Modi invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit India in December 2025.
