Trump has instructed the Pentagon to prepare the US military to deter Russia and China – Hegseth

The head of the White House Donald Trump instructed the Pentagon to prepare the armed forces to contain the rapprochement between Russia and China. This was stated by the head of the US Defence Ministry Pete Hegseth in an interview with Fox News TV channel.

“Unfortunately, the weakness of the previous administration brought Russia and China closer together. It was a terrible event caused by a lack of American leadership and strength. That’s why President Trump has instructed us in the Department of Defence to be prepared to rebuild our military, restore military morale and restore deterrence,” Pete Hegseth said.

The Pentagon chief noted that the United States does not seek conflict, but its readiness for conflict “keeps Americans safe.”

In addition to military deterrence of Russia and China, diplomacy will also be used, Hesseth said

“President Trump has an excellent relationship with the President [of China – ed.] Xi [Jinping – ed.], and he will use this in the hope of finding ways to work together,” – said the head of the US military department.

Earlier, the South China Morning Post wrote that China may increase exports of its goods to Russia in search of new markets amid the United States’ “tariff war”.
